Safety Considerations
The EquiScan ESP Equine Scintigraphy Positioner has been designed with high priority given to safety and ergonomic considerations. There are 10 Emergency Stop buttons located on supporting posts, the electrical cabinet and detector, and the activation of any one of these immediately halts all motion in all 6 axes. The same effect can be achieved using the Stop button on the handheld pendant or on the touchscreen monitor. Warning messages ask the operator to ensure that the floor area and pit door area are clear before proceeding with movement. Collimator changes can be effected safely and easily through the use of a Collimator Change program which moves the detector automatically to the collimator change trolley or table.
Finally, the system has been designed to be robust and able to absorb unusual stresses such as the weight of a horse leaning against it. Because of the flexibility and precision of the EquiScan ESP movement, patient movement and positioning is kept to a minimum during the imaging process, thus causing less stress on the patient.
